First off, huge thanks to my instructor, John T. for making the learning process as experiential as possible. I was told this would be intense training but that was an understatement. Sam, you made me do it! Even though I felt confident in the plane prior to meeting Ruben and beginning the AFIT program, by the end I realized how much I had learned and become a better pilot. In about 11 days, with your dedication, you will be ready to become a licensed private pilot. He is very knowledgeable and confident in his skills/abilities. Great concept. He is wildly patient and skilled at approaching your shortfalls from multiple sides to help get you past them. Im happy with that, his method is rooted in physics and being ahead of the airplane. That was such a confidence booster as opposed to my earlier training experience. I past Private Pilot check ride with flying colors in a short period of time. Andymy instructor, did an amazing job making sure I felt comfortable and went out ofhisway to keep me focused and on track to graduate with my license. While always on the task, concentrated and thorough, hes always up for a joke or a story from his own experiences as a commercial pilot. He has a special chair out by the runway and when you solo for the first time, he goes and sits in the chair and watches you take flight and land the plane all on your own. Andy, a very experienced pilot and a great flight instructor. Flight Training at our Chattanooga, Tennessee Location is taught by our Chief Flight Instructor. Both 61 and 141 schools have their benefits, but for me starting 141 and ending 61 worked out wonderfully. I certainly know where to go when Im ready to take the next step. We got along very well and I enjoyed our time together. The program was billed to me as a two-year program (since I had my gen eds out of the way) where I would finish with my four-year degree as well as a commercial certificate and maybe even my CFI certificate. We had lunch together, went out to dinner with our significant others, joined a bunch of other pilots for nice night out, etc, etc. His calm demeanor and patience allowed me to learn in a stress free environment. He is a man that has experience and knowledge that far surpasses his age, his patience and the ability to really teach was the key to our success. The best part is I could successfully handle 17 knots crosswind landing while turbulent at Van Nuys during my first flight as Private Pilot while other aircraft go around! I recommend AFIT to anyone who wants to earn their certificate quickly and the right way. Especially, I want to show my immense appreciation my instructor Sam for his patience and for believing in me even when I doubted myself. If you have a medical condition (even a serious one); it is still possible for you to get a license. His years of experience as a pilot and instructor are apparent as I was able to perform all of the required maneuvers for the practical exam within the first week of the program. He sized up my experience quickly and focused on what we needed to work on. As an McAir graduate you have more options and access to every major airline. Almost any flight school would happily work with you in an accelerated manner, at the very least for your commercial which can easily be done in a few days if you are proficient. And that was when I speculatively reached out to AFIT and Tony, to see if there was a better option. With AFIT youre learning from instructors who take your training as seriously as you do. I couldnt recommend them enough. He isnt in it to build hours but to create competent pilots, e.g. Paul is easily the best CFI I have ever worked with he has such a calm demeanor , he is super organized, he is extremely thorough in his knowledge of all the concepts, and he is amazingly adept at demonstrating and training required flying maneuvers. A Private Pilots License requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time, as well as extra time for study on the ground in preparation for the FAA written test. You were very responsive and originally took me on last-minute and I appreciated that. He was even teaching while we were eating lunch. Lastly, dont think you will be able to complete the training elsewhere you might be able to but it will probably take longer and cost more!
